As much as we hated 2020 because of the cancellation/postponement of all live music events due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we cannot deny our love for the huge wave of new music announcements and releases it has brought.
Brian "Head" Welch is one of the rock musicians we've seen in various projects this year. Each, was a pleasant surprise.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Head will join the late Chester Bennington's pre-Linkin Park band, Grey Daze, on their journey of making "Amends"; a project Kerrang magazine referred to as "The lost music of Chester Bennington"
Amends is a remastered album composed of Chester's vocals from the 1990s over newly recorded instrumentals. It is an 11-song release stemming from the band’s efforts and an homage to their friend and collaborator, Chester Bennington. The album contains guest appearances by “Head” & his friend and Korn bandmate James “Munky” Shaffer, Paige Hamilton (Helmet), Chris Traynor (Bush),
singer LP, Jasen Rauch (Breaking Benjamin) and Ryan Shuck (Dead By Sunrise)
In an interview with Guitar World, Welch says :
“ Being a part of the Grey Daze project was our thank you to Chester for all the years of friendship and music he shared with us and the world."
"Head" and "Munky" wrote the lead guitar lines on B12 and She Shines, sticking with their seven-string guitars and pedals, plus chorus and reverb.
"Even under such tragic circumstances, Chester continued to shine his light and bring people together" (Esjay Jones, Songwriter & Producer)
Esjay Jones, the South African producer/singer-songwriter known for her work with Grey Daze, Alien Ant Farm and Escape The Fate, was introduced to Brian "Head" Welch while working on the album Amends. Having launched her solo project this year, she announced that she's been working with Brian on upcoming songs under the moniker (WE ARE) PIGS.
Make sure to follow PIGS on Instagram to not miss the new updates.
Brian "Head" Welch's 2020 news continue as the rock and metal scene witnessed the resurrection of his band Love And Death after a 8 year hiatus with a new line-up consisting of Welch (Vocals, Guitar)
Breaking Benjamin's Jasen Rauch (Bass), JR Bareis (Guitar, Vocals) and Phinehas' Isaiah Perez (Drums).
On November 13th, 2020, The band unleashed the track "Down" announcing their first new album since 2013 titled Perfectly Preserved which will come out on February 12th, 2021.
The album is coming with plenty of surprises. It will feature collaborations with friends from other bands such as former Flyleaf vocalist Lacey Sturm, Breaking Benjamin guitarist and vocalist Keith Wallen, and Righteous Vendetta vocalist Ryan Hayes. The album will contain a metallic rendition of the pop song "Let Me Love You" originally sung by Justin Bieber ( yes you read it right ! )
During an appearance on the "Earache Podcast", Welch talked about the band's decision to cover LMLY :
"There's a cool story that goes along with it too that I really can't talk about it. But we're gonna release probably a video for it and everything and talk more about it. But there's a cool story that goes along with it with kind of a mental health angle. But I love it, man. It's a fun moment on the record."
Digital pre-orders for Perfectly Preserved are available here. Physical pre-orders are available starting Nov. 27.
